Welcome to Curious Clay. Here, you’ll find a body of work I’ve spent the past few years developing. I focus on building small collections of one-of-a-kind clay art objects.
Jannalyn Bailey was born and raised in rural northern Connecticut. Upon graduating from Somers High School, she moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia to enter a fine arts program for interior design at Arcadia University. There, she quickly felt an intense call to the painting program, where she studied under Betsey Batchelor and Abbey Ryan. She subsequently graduated in 2009 with a BFA in painting. After a brief hiatus, Janna embarked on a 2-year masters program at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Again, she presented her thesis in painting and drawing (and some soft sculpture). She was awarded her MFA in 2012.
After a long and winding road, Janna landed in Marguerita Hagan’s ceramic classes in Northern Liberties. Curious Clay was introduced in 2016 at Philly’s Art Star Craft Bazaar. It is the culmination of three of her passions - the beauty in unexpected form, color theory and eye-catching pattern. Her love of the art object is evident in all her objects she designs.
We hope Curious Clay objects bring joy and beauty to the slower moments of your day; be it putting on earrings, or having a hot beverage
Welcoming a daughter in 2018, Marlow is an ever-present assistant in the studio.
As of June 2021, Curious Clay headquarters relocated back to central Connecticut.
